A Birthday Celebration With Hidden Intentions

Dear Yelena returns following its powerful reception from audiences and critics alike. The play follows a group of graduating high school students who unexpectedly visit their teacher, Yelena, armed with wine and birthday gifts under the guise of celebrating her birthday. Standing on the threshold of adulthood, they appear to have come with good intentions, but it soon becomes clear that the celebration is merely a cover for something far more sinister. As the evening unfolds, tensions escalate and events spiral dangerously out of control.

This production features a new Icelandic translation by Kristín Eiríksdóttir, bringing the story closer to a contemporary Icelandic setting while preserving its enduring relevance. The play received 2 Gríman nominations.
